Alain M. Bellemare, President, Hamilton Sundstrand

On Jan. 1, 2009, Alain M. Bellemare became president, Hamilton Sundstrand, reporting to United Technologies' President and Chief Executive Officer Louis R. Chênevert.
Since 2002, Bellemare served as president of Pratt & Whitney Canada where he was responsible for the company's global operations in the design, manufacture and service of aircraft engines powering helicopters, business, general aviation and regional aircraft. He also served as Pratt & Whitney executive vice president, Group Strategy & Development, since April 2007. In this position, Bellemare led the strategic planning and business development initiatives supporting Pratt & Whitney's short- and long-term business growth objectives.
Bellemare began his career with United Technologies Corp. at Pratt & Whitney Canada in 1996 as vice president of Manufacturing. In 1997, he progressed to vice president of Operations. He also served as executive vice president before being appointed president.
Before joining Pratt & Whitney Canada, Bellemare spent more than 12 years in a variety of engineering and manufacturing positions with Kraft Canada and Crown Cork & Seal Canada.
He earned an MBA from McGill University in 1993 and a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Sherbrooke in 1984. He specialized in aeronautical engineering at École Nationale Supérieure d’Ingénieurs en Construction Aéronautique (ENSICA) in Toulouse, France.
In 2007, Bellemare received the prestigious Flight magazine Publisher's Award in recognition of his leadership in propelling Pratt & Whitney Canada to a position of great strength around the world, and for his contribution to aerospace. That same year, he was awarded an Exceptional Recognition from the Mouvement Québécois de la Qualité and the Quebec Government for his outstanding contribution to the advancement of quality. In 2006, he received the McGill Management Achievement Award for his community involvement and contributions to the Canadian economy. In 2001, he was honored as Nouveau Performant in recognition for his excellence in management. He also joined the ranks of Canada's Top 40 Under 40™ in recognition of his achievements, vision and leadership.
Bellemare is also a member of the board of the General Aviation Manufacturers Association (GAMA).
